Social Studies - U.S. History:
The fifth grade social studies program spans the evolution of humankind's first footsteps on North American soil to the beginnings of the Westward Movement. Students investigate U.S. history, not from a chronological or an encyclopedic approach, but from real life issues that make connections between the past and present. Cultural diversity, geography, civil rights, and economic issues are a few of the ideas explored and examined. An integrated, highly experiential field study at Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown (Virginia), and Washington D.C. is a culminating event in our study of U.S. History.
Text series: Foundations In American History, Volume 1; A History of US, books one through five; United States and Its Neighbors.
