Religious Ethics

Overview

One of our goals at Charles Wright Academy is to foster “social responsibility” within a diverse learning environment. This course is designed to explore different religious worldviews of social responsibility, understood as good and right conduct within a society, i.e. “ethics.”
We will discuss five major topics – divinity, wealth, love, politics, and death – and how they are viewed by five religions – Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.  We will consider what these religions teach about both HOW to act and WHY such actions are right.  Students will also do their own exploration of a religion of their choosing, as well as be challenged to reflect on their own beliefs about the “why” and “how” of social responsibility.
