Oxford (Grove) Art Online includes detailed information on many of the better-known photographers if you search for them by name. Encyclopedia Britannica covers some of the thematic areas for the project.

PBS American Masters includes biographies and photo galleries of some major American photographers.

Smithsonian American Art Museum contains biographies, analysis and photographs for some American photographers.
