Getting Started

  1. At the beginning of your project, plan to collect all your notes and bibliographic information in one place. Using a R.A.D. form will make this much easier. After you have chosen a good source of information, you will collect what you need for your bibliography BEFORE you begin taking notes.
  2. Some important bibliographic information includes:
    1. Author
    2. Book Title
    3. Journal (Magazine) Article Title
    4. Journal (Magazine) Title
    5. Date of Publication
    6. Publisher
    7. Journal (Magazine) Issue Number and Page Number
    8. Web Page Title
    9. Web Page Address
    10. Date the Web Page was Last Updated or Copyright Date
    11. Date you Viewed the Web Page
  3. ALWAYS follow your teacher's instructions for the final bibliography and make sure you cite every source you used to get ideas or information.

MLA Style Guide: (MLA is the bibliography style used by CWA)

Other Things to Remember:
  1. Always double space all the entries on your works cited page.
  2. Single space after periods.
  3. If you are using a resource that you don't know how to cite, copy down as much information as you can gather about the source (use the list at the beginning of this guide as a starting point) and then use an MLA handbook (you can find one in the library) or check with your teacher or librarian.
